DATE OF ORDINATION: JANUARY 1, 2003.

Fr. Brian Flynn, was born on his mother’s birthday, January 16, 1960 in Arlington, MA.  When he was six months old his parents, Herbert and Patricia Flynn, moved the family to Whitman, where he and his three brothers would grow up and spend their entire childhood.

Fr. Flynn received a degree in Economics and worked for 15 years in the automobile business.  In his early thirties he began to think that something more was waiting for him than being a service manager at a local car dealership.  He became active in his parish home, Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman, and began to explore the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood.   Approximately 5 years later and after much prayer he applied and was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Boston and was sent to St. John’s Seminary in Brighton.

Father Brian spent his seminary years doing ministry in a number of different assignments.  He loved ministering in city parishes and greatly enjoyed his time in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia learning Spanish.

His last assignment as a seminarian, and then Transitional Deacon, were spent at Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury.  There he was blessed with two great mentors in Msgr. George Carlson and Pastoral Associate Fran Hauk.  The two helped make him the priest that he is today and he is very grateful for their continued friendship.  He was ordained in May 2003 at Holy Cross Cathedral, and has the distinction of being the only Boston class to have been ordained by Bishop Richard Lennon.

Fr. Brian was first assigned to be a Parochial Vicar at two parishes, Gate of Heaven and St. Brigid in South Boston.  He spent four and a half years in South Boston before being asked to join his classmate, the late Fr. Brian Smith, at St. Edith Stein Parish in Brockton in team ministry as co-pastor. At St. Edith’s he worked very closely with the Cape Verde Community and even traveled to Cape Verde in the summer of 2009 to learn more about the culture and the language.

Fr. Brian first came to St. Mary's Parish in 2010.  As a South Shore resident, Lynn was very much unknown territory to him but he quickly learned what makes our city and the North Shore such a wonderful place to be.  He became Pastor of Lynn Catholic Collaborative in June 2013 and is very grateful to the people of St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart who continue to help and pray for him as we work together to make us two communities of great faith, reaching out and welcoming all.
